In het derde kwartaal van 2012 was de inflatie op alle drie de eilanden van Caribisch Nederland lager dan een kwartaal eerder. Op Bonaire kwam de inflatie uit op 2,3 procent, op Sint-Eustatius op 4,6 procent en op Saba op 3,0 procent. De belangrijkste oorzaken van de daling zijn lagere elektriciteitsprijzen op Sint- Eustatius en Saba en minder sterke prijsstijgingen van voeding op Bonaire en Saba.

Inflatie Bonaire daalt naar 2,3 procent

De inflatie op Bonaire is in het derde kwartaal van 2012 uitgekomen op 2,3 procent. Dat is 0,7 procentpunt lager dan in het tweede kwartaal. De daling komt vooral door de prijsontwikkeling van voedingsmiddelen. Voeding was in het derde kwartaal nog altijd 3,0 procent duurder dan een jaar eerder, maar in het tweede kwartaal was dit nog 6,0 procent. Ook de prijzen van alcoholhoudende dranken en tabak, en van woninginrichting hadden een drukkend effect op de inflatie.

On all three islands making up the Dutch Caribbean, inflation was lower in the third quarter of 2012 than in the previous quarter. On Bonaire inflation was 2.3 percent, on St Eustatius it was 4.6 percent and on Saba it was 3.0 percent. The main causes of the decreases are lower prices for electricity on St Eustatius and Saba and lower food price increases on Bonaire and Saba.

Inflation on Bonaire down to 2.3 percent

Inflation on Bonaire was 2.3 percent in the third quarter. This is 0.7 of a percent point lower than in het second quarter of 2012. The decrease was mainly caused by the much smaller increase in food prices in the third quarter, 3.0 percent, than in the second quarter, when it was 6.0 percent. Prices of alcoholic drinks and tobacco, and of home furnishings also had a downward effect on inflation.

Voorlopige cijfers
Voor Sint-Eustatius zijn enkele cijfers over het tweede kwartaal van 2012 bijgesteld ten opzichte van de eerdere publicatie als gevolg van nagekomen informatie. Deze cijfers zijn nu definitief. De cijfers over het derde kwartaal van 2012 zijn voorlopig en worden definitief vastgesteld bij de publicatie over het vierde kwartaal van 2012.
